Athlete Training for Alcatraz Open-Water Swim

Special Olympics Florida Hall of Fame member Marlynne Stutzman is training for her next major challenge.

In August, the Pasco County athlete will attempt the two-mile swim from Alcatraz Island – site of the infamous prison – to San Francisco. The open-water swim requires swimmers to overcome chilly, choppy waters and strong currents.

Marlynne is an accomplished triathlete who has already taken on the Boston Marathon and the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Nicknamed “The Fish,” she was inducted into the Special Olympics Hall of Fame in 2024.
